mission & principles
Through its work the Schumpeter School Foundation wants to support the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and strengthen its appeal and attractiveness. In doing so, the foundation also focuses its activities on promoting the Bergische Universität Wuppertal as well as the city of Wuppertal and the regional environment. Accordingly, a close cooperation between the Faculty and the regional economy is particularly important. The foundation also works as an intermediary between chairs and students of the Schumpeter School and regional enterprises or institutions.
The Schumpeter School Foundation works in particular in the following fields:
• Promotion of innovative teaching and learning conditions as well as innovative research fields
• Support for business start-ups
• Promoting regional, European and global structural change, including education and labor market policies
• Contributing to the internationalization of the faculty and external companies
• Establishment of regional contacts and networks in science and practice
• Promotion of studies and promotions
In addition, the work is supported by the Schumpeter School Alumni Association.
The motives for founding the Schumpeter School Foundation:
The motive to found the Schumpeter School Foundation Wuppertal was to support the research and teaching activities in the economic science department of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal financially and ideally in order to ensure their national and international competitiveness against other universities. In addition, the Foundation aims to strengthen the interest of the professional world and the general public in the events, projects, publications and persons of the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics.
2007: In line with amendment of the foundation law In 2007, after the approval of the district government of Düsseldorf, the Economics Department of the Bergische Universität founded a non-profit foundation to promote its transfer of knowledge, research and teaching activities:
"Entrepreneurship - Structural Change - Internationalization" (German: "USI" Foundation).
2009: At the beginning of 2009, the USI Foundation was renamed the “Schumpeter School Foundation”, after the name of the Department of Economics was supplemented in October 2008 by the name "Schumpeter School of Business & Economics".
